Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia John Holmes here Wednesday took the opportunity of his presence in North Sulawesi to visit the Bunaken National Marine Park (TNL).

The ambassador is making a four-day working visit here from June 18 to 21 to evaluate the implementation of a Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)-funded program in North Sulawesi.

“The ambassador was quite impressed by the beauty of Bunaken marine park which is rich in marine biota,” North Sulawesi regional government spokesman Roy Tumiwa said about Holmes` picnic.

The Canadian envoy said on the occasion, Bunaken National Marine Park was one of the world`s heritages that needed to be preserved because of its marine biodiversity, according to Roy.

In Holmes` view, the marine park would become world renown and contribute foreign exchange to the tourism sector if the regional government paid due attention to its environmental condition,

“The Canadian ambassador said he was prepared to help promote North Sulawesi`s natural beauty,” Roy said.

Quoting Holmes, Roy said the Canadian International Development Agency`s assistance to empower the local people`s economy was not only aimed at developing small industries but also at promoting the local tourism sector.
