Yudhoyono inaugurates world`s third largest herbarium

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Wednesday inaugurated Herbarium Bogoriense — the world third largest herbarium — located in the Cibinong Science Center (CSC), here on Wednesday.

The president called on researchers to use the herbarium as a center to carry out research for various innovations. “I believe that researchers will be able to produce valuable things for thenation and the world,” Yudhoyono was quoted by his official website.

The Herbarium Bogoriense is the most complete and oldest herbarium in Southeast Asian region and the third largest in the world. It is located at the CSC’s 189.6 hectare complex, which was established in 1964 by founding president Soekarno.

The herbarium building was constructed on a 12,330 square meter plot of land. It keeps 1,280,000 dried and 50,000 wet specimens of floras.
