60 species of butterflies in Gita Persada Park in Lampung
There are butterflies of 60 different species in Gita Persada Park on Betung Mount slope, Kemilang subdistrict, Lampung province, a spokesman said.
“The five-hectare park is a place both for recreation and study,” Herawati Soekardi, manager of the park, said here Friday.
She further said that visitors could learn more about the biodiversity of Sumatran butterflies and enjoy the beautiful colours of their wings.
The management has named the species in Indonesian language like Raja Helena, Perut Merah, Limau Balak, Limau Halom, Limau Tutul, Kupu Hijau, Sirsak Biru, Sirsak Hijau, Ekor Pedang, Cacapuri, Johar Kuning, Kertas, Buntar, Daun Coklat, Widuri and Kepompong Emas.
Visitors also can watch their activities like searching for food, laying eggs or metamorphoses.
Thomas Daley, the US embassy`s cultural attache, in the company of Simon Jones of Solimar International became the park`s special guests on Friday.
The park has developed conservation and biodiversity projects since 1972
