Sumatera International Travel Fair is a sub regional event to bring the region together in order to achieve the greater business cooperation. The main objectives of Sumatera International Travel Fair is to encourage intra-regional movement and to conserve and to promote the image of Sumatera as a place of “Tropical Adventure and Multicultural Heritage”. The Travel Fair will consist of many activities such as Destination Promotion, Sales Promotion, Business Contact, Tourism Forum, MITTAs Gathering as well as Sumatera Food and Fashion Show. The North Sumatera Tourism Board in cooperation with all the provincial tourist office the whole of Sumatera and supported by Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Singapore Tourism Board, and Ministry of Culture and Tourism of The Republic of Indonesia. Sumatra International Travel Fair 2006 will be held on July 21-24 at the Tiara Convention Center in Medan Indonesia.

Apart from the IMT-GT governments, this time the event has received full support from the (10) provincial governments in Sumatera. They are North Sumatera, West Sumatera, South Sumatera, Riau, Riau Islands, Nangroe Aceh Darussalam, Jambi, Bangka-Belitung, Lampung and Bengkulu.

The travel fair will take place on July 22-23 with sellers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore, while buyers will come from the IMT-GT countries, including Singapore, China, India and Europe. The total number of buyers and sellers is expected to reach 300 delegates.
